The Markaudio 6T

The 2" 6T audio driver from Markaudio is a high quality wide frequency range audio driver operating from 120Hz up to 30,000Hz. It has one of the widest frequency ranges for this size of speaker.

Technical Features

  • Chassis (also known as Frame or Basket)
    One of the unique features of the 6T is the chassis, designed to absorb vibrations coming from the moving parts of the driver. The chassis is constructed from 4 different materials to produce a more resonance neutral tone. Many metal baskets make a 'bell-like' ringing sound, which can add unwanted frequencies and may interfere with musical delivery from the speaker. Our chassis is built for strength, stability and is easy to fit into enclosures.
  • Cone and Cap
    The cone and cap is our own design, made from a light alloy sourced from Japan. Both cone and cap have an ultra-low mass (very low weight) giving increased sensitivity with accurate delivery of musical sounds.
  • Single Suspension
    The 6T has no second suspension (spider behind the cone). The main suspension is a special blend of materials to give more stability for the moving parts of the driver. This feature significantly increases the frequency range of the 6T. The single suspension design also allows for extra control of the resonance frequency of the 6T by varying the size of its enclosure (see Volume/Frequency chart)

Main Performance Features

  • Rising HF Response
    Many small speaker designs that try to cover a wide frequency range have difficulty controlling the high range. The 6T has excellent control with a smooth gradual frequency increase from 10,000Hz to 18,000Hz. The gain is +9dB at 17,000Hz. This feature is most useful for delivering the detail from music with high range instruments.
  • Wide Range
    With the 6T operating from 120Hz to 30,000Hz, it is very easy for system designers to make a crossover.
  • Central Stereo Image
    The advantage of the 6T is its large cone area. The shape of the cone and cap create a wide detailed central stereo image (depending on source and amplification). The levels of distortion are well controlled since the cone area is large.
  • Sound Impression
    Music is always about personal taste. Some listeners prefer soft warm sound while others want cleananalyticaldetail. The 6T delivers clean detail while retaining warmth and sweetness. Thanks to the purity of its design and care taken in the use of materials, the 6T retains "realism" in its performance.
  • Flexibility
    The 6T is very easy to match with other drivers for use in open baffle, ported, sealed and many other types of enclosure. The choice on where to crossover is very wide with the 6T, wider that most dome and ribbon tweeters.
